How do we choose the right wedding photographer?
Choosing your wedding photographer is about much more than finding someone whose photos you like. Long after the flowers have faded, the dress has been packed away and the cake has been eaten, your photographs will become one of the few lasting reminders of how your wedding day actually felt.
Every photographer has a different style, personality and approach, so it's important to find someone whose work—and whose presence—you genuinely connect with.
1. Choose a photography style you love
Before you start comparing photographers, spend some time working out what style you're naturally drawn to.
Do you love candid, documentary-style images that capture real moments as they unfold? Or do you prefer more traditional, posed portraits? Perhaps you're drawn to a blend of both.
Our style is relaxed, natural and story-driven. We believe the best photographs come from genuine moments rather than stiff posing, creating images that feel timeless and authentic years from now.
2. Look at complete wedding galleries
Instagram is a wonderful place to discover photographers, but it only shows the highlights.
When choosing a photographer, ask to see complete wedding galleries. This gives you a much better understanding of how they photograph an entire wedding day—from getting ready in the morning through to the dance floor at night—and how they handle different lighting, weather and locations.
Consistency across an entire wedding is one of the best indicators of experience.
3. Find someone you genuinely enjoy being around
Your photographer will spend a significant part of your wedding day with you. They'll be there during some of the most emotional and intimate moments—from the excitement of getting ready to quiet moments together after the ceremony.
Choose someone who helps you feel relaxed, comfortable and completely yourself. When you feel at ease, your photographs naturally become more authentic.
4. Experience matters
Every wedding is different, and no two timelines ever run exactly as planned.
An experienced photographer knows how to adapt when the weather changes, when timelines run behind or when unexpected moments arise. They can anticipate emotion before it happens, work calmly under pressure and help keep the day flowing without adding stress.
After photographing hundreds of weddings across South Australia, we've learned that flexibility, preparation and calm communication are just as important as taking beautiful photographs.
5. Think beyond today's trends
Photography trends come and go, but your wedding photographs will hopefully be enjoyed for decades.
Choose work that still makes you feel something—not just images that are fashionable today. Natural colours, genuine emotion and honest storytelling have a timeless quality that never goes out of style.
6. Read reviews and ask questions
Take the time to read reviews from previous couples and don't be afraid to ask questions.
Ask about their approach to the day, how they help couples who feel nervous in front of the camera, what happens if it rains, how your images are delivered and what support they provide during the planning process.
The right photographer should make you feel informed and excited, never pressured.
Our advice
One of the biggest lessons we've learned after photographing weddings throughout Adelaide and South Australia is this:
The couples who love their wedding photographs the most aren't necessarily the ones with the perfect weather, the biggest budget or the most elaborate styling. They're the couples who felt present, relaxed and able to enjoy their day together.
Choosing a photographer isn't simply about hiring someone to take beautiful pictures. It's about choosing someone you trust to tell your story honestly, thoughtfully and with care.
If you finish your wedding feeling like you've spent the day celebrating with the people you love—not performing for the camera—then we've done our job.

Item descriptionWhat We've Learned After Photographing Hundreds of South Australian Weddings
Every wedding has its own story, but after photographing hundreds of celebrations across Adelaide and South Australia, we've noticed that the things couples remember most are rarely the things they worried about while planning.
Here are a few lessons we've learned along the way.
Your guests won't remember whether everything ran perfectly.
They'll remember how your wedding felt.
The laughter during speeches. The hugs from family. The tears during your vows. The dance floor at the end of the night.
Those are the moments that become part of your family's story.
The weather is almost never the thing that makes a wedding unforgettable.
Some of our favourite photographs have been taken in rain, wind, overcast skies and unexpected weather.
Beautiful light comes in many forms, and some of the most emotional images happen when couples embrace whatever the day brings instead of worrying about creating "perfect" conditions.
The best photographs happen when you're fully present.
The couples whose galleries feel the most genuine aren't thinking about the camera.
They're laughing with friends.
Holding hands.
Talking to grandparents.
Sneaking a quiet moment together.
Our job isn't to interrupt those moments—it's to recognise them and preserve them.
Build breathing room into your timeline.
Almost every wedding runs a little differently to the original plan.
Allowing ten or fifteen extra minutes throughout the day gives everyone room to relax and means you're less likely to feel rushed.
Ironically, slowing down often creates the most beautiful photographs.
Spend time with the people you love.
We've never had a couple wish they'd spent more time posing for photographs.
We have heard many say they wished they'd had a few more moments to chat with family, hug friends or simply take everything in.
That's why we work efficiently and intentionally—so you can spend your wedding celebrating, not standing in front of a camera.
Trends fade. Genuine moments don't.
Photography styles will continue to evolve over the years.
What never goes out of fashion is real emotion.
The way your dad looked at you before walking down the aisle.
Your grandmother's smile.
Your best friend's speech.
Those are the photographs that become more valuable with every passing year.
The photographs become more meaningful as life changes.
When we first deliver a gallery, couples often love the portraits and the excitement of the day.
Years later, they tell us something different.
Now it's the photographs of people who are no longer here.
The hugs from grandparents.
The quiet conversations between parents.
The little moments they didn't even realise were happening.
Time has a way of changing what matters most.
That's why we believe wedding photography isn't simply about documenting one day.
It's about preserving a piece of your family's history.
If there's one thing we've learned after photographing hundreds of weddings, it's this:
A great wedding isn't measured by perfect timelines, perfect weather or perfect styling.
It's measured by the people you shared it with.
Our hope is that every time you look back at your photographs, you're reminded not just of what your wedding looked like—but exactly how it felt.

Most couples book their wedding photographer between 12 and 18 months before their wedding, particularly for popular months across Adelaide and South Australia.
If you're planning a wedding in the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale or on the Fleurieu Peninsula during spring or autumn, we'd recommend booking as early as possible.
That said, don't be discouraged if your wedding is only a few months away. We occasionally have dates become available due to venue changes or postponed weddings, so it's always worth reaching out.

Absolutely—and you're not alone.
Almost every couple tells us they're nervous about having their photo taken. The good news is that you don't need to know how to pose.
Our approach is based on natural interaction rather than stiff posing. We'll guide you when you need it, but we'll also give you space to relax, chat, laugh and simply enjoy being together. The result is photographs that feel genuine and reflect your relationship, rather than looking overly posed or forced.
By the end of the session, most couples tell us they forgot the camera was even there.

Rain is one of the biggest worries for couples—and after photographing weddings in every kind of South Australian weather, we can honestly say it rarely has the impact people imagine.
One of the biggest pieces of advice we can give couples is not to stress about the weather.
Some of our favourite wedding photographs have been taken on rainy days. Soft light, dramatic skies and a slower pace often create incredibly romantic images.
We always have a backup plan, know how to work with different weather conditions and will help you make the most of your day, whatever the forecast. Your wedding isn't defined by the weather—it's defined by the people and the moments you share.
The most memorable wedding photographs aren't remembered because the sun was shining—they're remembered because they captured how the day felt.

Wedding photography in Adelaide varies depending on experience, coverage and what's included. Most professional wedding photographers charge anywhere from around $3,000 to $7,000 for full-day wedding photography.
When comparing photographers, it's worth looking beyond price alone. Consider their experience, editing style, how they approach a wedding day, what's included in their collections, and whether you genuinely connect with them. Your photographer will spend more time with you on your wedding day than almost anyone else, so choosing someone you feel comfortable with is just as important as loving their photographs.
Our collections are designed to provide beautiful, timeless images while creating a relaxed experience that allows you to enjoy your wedding rather than feeling like you're constantly posing for photos.
